Time is money. It is important, no matter what you do or where you are, to be able to manage your time effectively. If your weeks always seem to start off slow, then quickly come to an end with little to show for productivity, then you need these 10 tips.
Here are 10 ways to ensure you are more productive this week.
1- Focus on one task at a time.
Despite what people think, Science has proven that there is no such thing as multitasking. You cannot do two things at the same time and give both tasks equal attention. Completing one task at a time will help you finish faster and increase your precision.
2 – Learn to say “no”.
If you tend to take on more than you can chew because you cannot say no, then you’re at a loss. You are sacrificing your time and effort for other people’s sake. Learn to choose yourself. Ask whether the task being handed to you is value to you and whether you really have the extra time to handle it. Will it mean having to sacrifice the quality or timeliness of other tasks on your to-do list?
“a well-placed ‘No’ can not only save you time and trouble, it can save your life.” – James Altucher, author of Choose Yourself.
3 – Plan to be Productive
When you have a plan in place, being productive can start as early as Monday. There will always be unexpected tasks and having a schedule can help you decide when to deal with them. That way you’re not running around like a headless chicken.
4 – Start the week before.
As you’re creating your schedule, aim to have your week’s tasks completed by Thursday. Set Friday to deal with unexpected tasks. Also use your Friday to plan for the next week. You will go home, enjoy your weekend, and when Monday comes, you will not feel clueless.
5 – Get the annoying stuff out of the way
There is always one or two tasks that you hardly look forward to. Don’t waste your energy hating the fact that you need to do it. Tackle what you don’t want to do first. Once you’re done your day will be much more smoother.
6 – Be Vulnerable
Don’t shy away from asking for a second opinion, even when you hate criticism. Having an accountability partner who can share constructive criticism and help you brainstorm for better ways to manage your tasks.
7 – Compare your work process to others’
8 – Complete is better than perfect
Being a perfectionist can be a good thing, but it also has its disadvantages. It is, in fact, the ultimate enemy to productivity. If you take a lot of time perfecting a concept, remember that is better to complete 100 things in a week than 15 that are perfect.
9. Start early
The sooner you start your day, the more you will get done. Wake up early and take care of your personal issues and breakfast before you begin. The fewer distractions there are throughout the day, the more tasks you will complete.
10 – Schedule your down time
Separate work from play; both are equally important. When you’re working, go all out. When you are away from work, stay far, far away from work. Your body needs the break.
