Imagine Life Without Your Smartphone

Have you ever experienced motherboard failure on your smartphone? Or worse still, your phone gets snatched as you’re running errands in the CBD.  Ulisikiaje? I’m sure ulifeel nikama dunia yako imeisha. Our phones get us everywhere, literally! Think about how lost you’d be without Google Maps or how lonely you’d feel without instant access to your playlist or games, not to mention the calm feeling of scrolling through Instagram to appease your FOMO!

Unakumbuka way back before cellphones zikuje? How you would line up at a phone booth to make calls to your loved ones? I actually remember during my high school days, kulikuwa na moja chuo and we, the students, devised a way of saving coins needed to make calls. Si mnaelewa situation ya kusota dem days? Talk of being crafty! All one needed to do was insert a metallic spoon in the same place as coins, can you imagine!? Haha, then the phone would detect it as a coin and you would talk for as long as you wanted!

Okay! Away from high school shenanigans.

Let’s picture what life would be without a smartphone.

Want an Uber? Ati unataka nini? That would not even be a thing. Ingebidi umetafuta taxi services on Yellow pages and then use a landline to make a call. Ata huwezi jua kama huyo mtu ako almost kufika or not because…hakuna gps tracker!

You have an assignment and don’t know where to start? Itabidi you book a space in your local library and be ready to spend hours researching, well because, there’s no Google for you!

Selfies? Lol! Just imagine having to go to a studio to take a picture that you want to upload on your Facebook or Instagram profiles! Na usisahau hustle ya kupata cyber imejaa na net iko chini.

So you want to buy a car? Great! Buy a newspaper and scroll through the adverts or worse still, eavesdrop on a conversation about the same then figure out how a friend of a friend can help you out with the process.

I could go on and on. Life today would be difficult without your smartphone, to say the least. But at the same time, unplugging on occasion isn’t the worst thing in the world. When was the last time you went to a new place and didn’t put it on the gram? Or thought about something and didn’t find the need to tweet about it? In the words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.”
