Things They Don’t Tell You After Finishing School

Life is funny. When you’re in school, you can’t wait to finish and when you finish, you’d do anything to go back to school. It’s not until you start working for them coins that you realize just how challenging life can be. Here’s a few things you need to know as you prepare to join the job market.

Remember back in primary or high school when we made plans of how we’d finish school, work in the UN and be the president’s wife by 23? I mean dreams are good but the truth of the matter is that after you finish school, you might not land your dream job immediately. You’ll have to go through numerous job interviews and participate in assessment tests just to land a decent job.You might take a week, a month or a couple of months just to land a decent job because let’s be honest, you either have minimal to no work experience plus you may not know a lot of people in the industry. So basically, you’re starting from scratch.

Have you noticed how starting a biashara has become a trend? If you feel you’re an entrepreneur at heart and you’d like to engage in biashara, you may want to do the following things before launching your product:

-Do your market research

-Have at least a 6 months plan

-Plan your finances accordingly

-Consult an experienced person before making major moves

-Have a proper marketing strategy

Being that we are living in the social media era, maximize it to the fullest!!! Also, if you know biashara is not your thing, don’t force it. Just focus on that thing you’re actually good at.

I remember when I was a kid I used to envy adults when I saw them go to work every morning then come back with groceries and cakes and fruits in the evening. I always thought to myself ‘How much fun they must be having!’ It’s until you start working that you realize that employment is not all fun and games. You have to work smart, be dynamic, self-driven and love what you do to survive in the industry that you’re in. You always have to think outside the box and be a solution provider, not a trouble maker.

Kitambo when I heard adults say they’re broke mid-month I used to be like ‘I know you lying!’ At that time I thought they were just being mean or they weren’t in a giving mood. It’s not until you start working that you realize that being broke at the middle of the month is actually very much possible. If you’re a person who doesn’t like to save or make a budget, then you’ll have a very hard time once you’re employed.

Lastly, see the way when you go to school, you meet people of different characters? Same thing happens at the work place. You’ll meet both good and bad people. It’s up to you to discern who to keep close and who to avoid because being involved with some people might cause trouble for you. Don’t always be too fast to talk and reveal things about yourself, because the same information that you put out there might be used against you.

That said, what are some of the shockers you experienced when you finished school? Let me know.
